Welcome to the davis-reunion.org front door

To get inside - to the true Homepage (which is protected against Spambots) - please follow these steps:

  1. Click ENTER, and an authentication dialog box should open.

  2. For the User Name, type

  3. For the Password, type nothing at all; just leave it empty. The Password is the empty string.

  4. If there is a checkbox labeled Save this password in your password list, then I recommend that you check it. If you do, then your browser will save all the relevant data (Site + Realm + User Name + Password) to your hard drive. The next time you request a protected page on this site, the User Name + Password boxes will be filled in for you, and no further typing will be needed.
At this point, the authentication dialog box should look similar to this:

  5. Press the OK button and the real homepage should open. Congratulations - you have been authenticated, and access is authorized.

Questions and Answers

Why the special authentication ? The instructions are there for anyone to get in !
Yes, any human can get in, but what about robots ? Probably all of us have received annoying e-mail messages, aka spam. You may ask yourself: How did they get my e-mail address ? Quite often, e-mail addresses are gathered from web pages by programs specifically written for that purpose. The programs are similar to the robots used by good search engines, such as google.com and yahoo.com. The bad programs are sometimes called badbots, spambots, and spiderts. They are bad because they do not obey the robot rules established by web designers. If the contents are not protected, a badbot could find the contact page inside, and potentially gather/harvest the e-mail addresses there.

But I can see the User Name and Password. Can't a badbot see them too ?
You are looking at an image, and not at real text. From what I have read, badbots do not contain Optical Character Recognition (OCR) methods. The bots would then be too slow (in the year 2002).

After I get to the homepage, is it OK to put it in my favorites/bookmarks ?
Yes, that is safe.

If I make a webpage, can I put a link directly to the homepage ?
Yes. that is safe too.
